Despite new film role, Jane Fonda says she was 'never a hippie'

Now 74 and in her self-described “third act,” Jane Fonda is clear-eyed, focused, fit, relaxed — and busier than ever. Her new film, “Peace, Love & Misunderstanding,” opens Friday in limited release, with Fonda playing an aging Woodstock hippie named Grace. Directed by Bruce Beresford (“Driving Miss Daisy”), the movie revolves around Grace, who is thrilled when her conservative attorney daughter Diane (Catherine Keener), whom she hasn’t seen in 20 years, arrives at her doorstep with her two teenage children.
